Welcome to the A-Z English podcast. My name is Jack and I am here with three of my good friends, Leila May and Hendrick. And today we are going to do a would you rather question?

The the Master of would you rather questions and today's would you rather question is, would you rather have friends who are similar to you or friends who are very different from you? And we'll start with Layla first.

Layla, what do you think?

Layla

Ohh, that's the question really. A tough one. Do you know?

Layla

I think uh yeah.

Layla

I think I would rather have friends who are different from me because I don't want another virgin of me.

Because I want my friends tell me my how to say my bad habits and I can learn something from them and they can learn something from me because we are different. We are not the same. We don't have the same for example.

Hobbies and.

Challenge. So I think this is the benefit of the being of having friends who are different from you. So I think and they maybe will always point out my my mistake in a different way. I believe as they are.

Their friends, they will use the the way that not hurt me at all to tell me about my mistakes.

Right. And even though it's more uncomfortable because you have to try new things, it'll be more interesting because you get to discover new things. Is that what you're thinking?

Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly. Because if I have just a friends like me, I wouldn't go for something. You know, as you mentioned.

I will don't have any challenge. They will never help me, but when they are different, I think I believe they help me to go forward more and more and discover many, many different and new things.

Yeah, OK, good. Alright. Alright. I think we I think you make a good argument there may. What about you? What do you think? Would you rather have friends that are very similar or very different from you?

Well, in this case definitely I prefer to have friends who are not the same as in.

So in my personal life, I prefer. I mean, I enjoy to mix with people who.

Are not the same like me like I because the reason is actually because when we are sitting with the community who are actually say who staying with her, we will eventually talk.

Yeah, I like that because you're talking about drama. And when we talk about drama, you don't need to create drama. If you're with people who are different, because that's already kind of a dramatic situation, right? I mean, there's a lot to talk about. Yeah.

So when because when you're with different people.

Then we need to know our our real world like so they will share about theirs and at the same time we will share ours. So the conversation would be more entertaining, I think.

Yeah. And when we're with the same people that we hang out with all the time that are very much like us, then we tend to create our own drama, right. We argue, we we.

Yeah, right, they argue. They talk like they talk, like behind each other. So that is why I really, really dislike.

Jack

Yeah. And that's you make excellent points, OK. And your points are a little bit different than Layla's. But both of you are. You know, you're starting to build a very good argument for different friends. So, Hendrick, what do you think? Can you go against Leila in May or do?

You agree with them.

Hendrick

Yeah. For me, I think I'm open to have some friends that not very similar with me, but to be honest, in this case, I think I would better to choose to have friends that's similar with me. Yeah, because, you know, like right now, I have the experiences.

To you know, live together with friends that you know it's very different with me, you know, like in this case of we, you know, like, I would like to study reading books and then they just like to hang out and, you know, like enjoy something and, you know, like.

Because of, you know like.

This difference is, you know, like and then it becomes like head disorder because you know, like when they ask me to hang out, I don't have time for them, you know. And then when I need to study, you know?

Sometimes they don't understand.

Which is, you know, it's quite difficult, but you know, when I, I think when you have like the friends that similar to you like you have the same hobbies maybe like you like to, like reading books maybe, you know, like you can spend your time together, maybe just reading.

Together. But then you have friends.

Hendrick

That are very similar with.

Hendrick

You. That's what you deal with, that is.

You know, like they have their.

On needs and you know, like you, you also need to do yours, which is I think it's quite difficult.

Right. And you're the person who likes to, you know, your safe place is your, your sanctuary, is your your room. You know, you like to be there with your books in a quiet place, surrounded by academia. Your your academic subjects that you're studying.

Jack

And when you're in a situation where you're with very different people, that some of them are extroverts, some of them are introverts, but they all have different wants and needs. And it's very difficult for you, a person who likes to find a quiet place to read, it's hard to find that right.

Hendrick

So you are right, you are right.

Hendrick

You know, I think I'm OK to have friends. That's very similar, not similar with me. At least they they can understand me, you know? Like, yeah. At least they can understand what I need to do and what I don't want to do.

Yeah. Yeah, because here, you know, it's quite hard because you know we, we, we.

Hendrick

We came from different backgrounds here, you know, like from different backgrounds. And then, you know, sometimes it's quite hard to understand each other. Yeah. Because they want to do their things. And we also want to do our things.

Yeah, alright. So now it's my turn and uh, we've got 2/2 for different and one for similar.

Now I do think that.

And I'm also gonna agree with Hendrick, and I'm going to say at my point in my life when I'm 46 years old, I don't need different friends who are different because.

I don't want.

To go rock climbing on Saturday. I don't want to go hiking on Sunday. I don't want to sky Skydive on Thursday.

Jack

I have. I'm too old for all that stuff. I just want to do what I want to do and if I have to have a new friend, then I want them to also just want to do what I want to do because I'm just kind of stubborn, like I like my life the way it's.

Organized it's, you know.

It's the way I like it so I can only get along with people who are similar to me at this point in my life. I can get along with people who are different. I just don't think I could be close friends with those people I can get.

But I can't be good friends with those people. So we're we're in an impasse here. We're stuck with two versus 2.
