Athletes Authority ON AIR | Ep. 58 - Joey Bergles - Finding Your Voice As A Coach & Coaching The Growing Athlete
Today’s episode of Athletes Authority ON AIR is episode 58 with co-hosts Lachlan Wilmot and Jordi Taylor.
Today’s guest is Joey Burgles, Director and Head of Strength & Conditioning at JJ Pearce in Texas. Joey has the privilege of working with athletes from as young as 7 years old through to collegiate and professional on a daily basis, which gives him a unique view point and helped create his overarching philosophy on athletic development.
In this episode, Joey shares his thoughts on what athletic development means to the youth athlete, how he implements typically boring training modalities such as mobility and FRC with up to 80 athletes at a time, how he discovered and adapted his coaching voice and weight room presence, advice for younger coaches on reflection and documenting the journey, how to approach a session with 1 or 100 athletes and some of his thoughts around training some training methods and their place is his training philosophy plus a whole lot more.
This episode has plenty of incredible insights for both coaches and athletes looking deeper into the youth athlete and approaching training sessions from a communication and coaching presence standpoint.
Enjoy, and let us know what you think!
