10 years ago, Palestinian Professor Refaat Alareer (z''l) appeared on the original version of Beyond The Pale with his student, Yousef Aljamal, while on US tour with their book, Gaza Writes Back.

Shoshana Brown and Rafael Shimunov replay segments of that episode from the the Beyond The Pale archives, housed at The Tamiment Library and Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives at NYU.

Rafael describes his relationship with Refaat, why it was so hard to edit these clips. Shoshana speaks on collective liberation, and healing after Refaat's and his family's murder by Israeli forces. And Yousef, now a scholar himself, opens archives with a tribute to Refaat. We hear the voices of past show hosts, including Alex Kane, Esther Kaplan and Marilyn Kleinberg Neimark--and its original intro.

We open the show with Brian Cox's reading of Refaat's final poem, "If I Must Die" and cover his impact around the world and across the campus protests by students across the United States and world. And we closed the show with a reading from the book itself, Gaza Writes Back: Short Stories from Young Writers in Gaza, Palestine.
