Germany's Crackdown on Bad Box Malware

Germany's cybersecurity agency has successfully sinkholed the Bad Box malware, which had been operating through malicious apps and firmware to build a botnet of over 280,000 systems. The BSI reported that traffic from 30,000 devices had been redirected to their sinkhole, with plans to alert the affected device owners in collaboration with internet service providers. Human Security, the firm that initially identified the malware, indicated that the Bad Box group likely based in China had infiltrated hardware supply chains, allowing them to preload malware onto devices. This action highlights a significant step in combating ad fraud and securing devices against future vulnerabilities.
