S2E4: American Anthropologists in Afghanistan

Now that the Taliban has taken over Afghanistan, it is time to ask questions to why and how the American intervention proved such a total disaster.

HistoryChatter addresses that question by revisiting a little-known aspect of the American military intervention in Afghanistan.

In 2007, Pentagon introduced a new programme called the Human Terrain System.
It involved professional anthropologists travelling with the army and talking to the average Afghan in order to enlist local support for the American intervention.
This episode deals with this idea and implementation of this one of its kind collaboration between anthropologists and the army.
It asks how this new programme influenced prospects of collaboration between the Academia and the industry.
