Interview with Chairman Gonzalo: Part 5
Chairman Gonzalo led the reconstituted Communist Party of Peru (PCP) and was instrumental in the theorization of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and Gonzalo Thought, the application of MLM to the concrete reality of the Peruvian Revolution. Under his leadership, the PCP initiated a Protracted People's War in 1980, achieving huge gains against the Peruvian state, building massive base areas, predominantly in the central and southern regions of Peru, and achieving strategic equilibrium by the early 1990s. Chairman Gonzalo was captured by the Peruvian state in 1992, dying in the Maximum Safety Center of the Callao Naval Base in 2021.
This interview was conducted in 1988, at a high point of the Party's armed struggle against the Peruvian state, and covers topics ranging from the development of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, the Party, People's War, national and international politics, and more.
