In this podcast, the hosts discuss the technical challenge of building shaking bridges. They explore bridge width and height, speculate on the number of layers in a build, and share a conspiracy theory about the show's dials. They also discuss bridge design strategy, upcoming challenges, and their excitement for Halloween builds.
Contestants focused on building solid bridges, while one team attempted a flexible design.
Teams tried different bridge designs, including suspension bridges and loose bricks inside the pillars to absorb shaking.
Deep dives
The Bridge to Far Challenge
The contestants were tasked with building a bridge that could withstand shaking on two independently shaking platforms. Most teams focused on building solid bridges, while one team attempted a flexible design. The team of Nick and Jean won by building a heavy, solid brick pillar and bridge.
Unique Approaches and Techniques
Several teams tried different approaches to their bridge designs, including suspension bridges, flexible bridges, and using loose bricks inside the pillars to absorb shaking. The winning design ended up being the heaviest and most solid bridge.
Challenges and Robbed Potential
Teams faced challenges to balance aesthetics and functionality in their bridge designs. Some teams ran out of time to properly connect the bridge to the pillars, while others focused more on the pillars than the stability of the bridge. Henry and Josh's unique storytelling and aesthetics were praised but fell short in the shaking test.
