Glen Scrivener and Rev Dr Paul Blackham explore steps to sharing the Gospel using the 321 structure. They discuss becoming like Jesus, the fallen nature of human thinking, the role of the Holy Spirit in evangelism, and the impact of sharing Jesus' hope and the local church community.
Believers are united with Christ, receiving His righteousness and giving their sin and shame to Him, resulting in a transformative relationship similar to a prostitute becoming a princess upon marriage.
Knowing God is intertwined with salvation, so instead of gradually working towards understanding, believers should come to Jesus and receive the story, as the Holy Spirit works through the proclamation of the gospel to help people know God.
Deep dives
The Importance of United to Jesus
Being united to Jesus is compared to being one with a champion footballer or being inside an airplane. Just as a bride is one with her husband, believers are one with Christ. The offer of Christ is to give everything to believers - righteousness, peace, blessing, and inheritance. In return, believers give all their sin, shame, and old identity to Jesus. This union with Christ is a powerful and transformative relationship, similar to a prostitute becoming a princess upon marriage.
The Organic Connection between Knowing God and Salvation
Knowing God is intrinsically linked with salvation, according to the Bible. In 1 Peter 3:15, believers are urged to always be ready to give an answer for the hope they have in Christ. Because salvation and knowing God go hand in hand, it is not a matter of gradually working towards understanding, but rather coming to Jesus and receiving the story. The Holy Spirit works through the proclamation of the gospel, transforming hearts and helping people to know God.
Hospitality and Telling the Story of Jesus
Evangelism is not about cleverly bridging unrelated topics or throwing stones at non-believers, but rather welcoming them into the Christian house with hospitality. The invitation is to share the grand tour of the Christian faith, not expecting people to immediately understand, but genuinely offering the story of Jesus and letting the Holy Spirit work. The emphasis is on telling the story rather than trying to convert or convince through human reasoning or complex arguments.
In this third and final section, Glen Scrivener and Rev Dr Paul Blackham conclude talking about about sharing the Gospel in three steps, using the 321 structure. This is taken from the audio of the video below. This time they focus on the ‘ONE’ section of 321.
