Kumi Taguchi on how she was shaped by her family history

For much of her life, journalist Kumi Taguchi refused to engage with the family history that had been passed on to her.

But, eventually, she says, she had no choice but to better understand it. That process not only enriched her life but helped her make sense of her place in the world.
