Deep dives
The Lifecycle of a Butterfly
A butterfly's journey starts as a tiny egg on a leaf, hatches into a caterpillar that voraciously eats and grows until it molts, shedding its skin. Inside the caterpillar are imaginal discs, special cells that awaken when it's time for the transformation into a butterfly. After forming a chrysalis, the caterpillar breaks down into a soup-like substance, while the imaginal discs grow into the butterfly's body parts. Once ready, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, spreads its wings, and begins its life sipping nectar from flowers.
The Role of Pollinators
Butterflies and moths play a vital role as pollinators, assisting in the plant's reproduction process by carrying pollen from flower to flower. Their interactions with flowers help in setting seeds, ensuring the growth of fruits and veggies. While butterflies are good pollinators, moths are even more crucial due to their abundance and long-standing relationships with plants and flowers, enriching our food sources.
