The Lifecycle of a Butterfly

A butterfly's journey starts as a tiny egg on a leaf, hatches into a caterpillar that voraciously eats and grows until it molts, shedding its skin. Inside the caterpillar are imaginal discs, special cells that awaken when it's time for the transformation into a butterfly. After forming a chrysalis, the caterpillar breaks down into a soup-like substance, while the imaginal discs grow into the butterfly's body parts. Once ready, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, spreads its wings, and begins its life sipping nectar from flowers.
