Cameo is an app that allows users to request personalized video messages from thousands of celebrities, athletes, and influencers for a fee. Celebrities like Elijah Wood, known for his role as Frodo in Lord of the Rings, have joined the platform. However, concerns have arisen regarding the misuse of these videos, as they can be edited and used in disinformation campaigns. False claims about substance abuse problems of a fictional person named Vladimir were spread through edited videos recorded by Elijah Wood and other celebrities. These videos were part of a Russian propaganda campaign with the goal of discrediting Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and eroding Western support for Ukraine.
