The Overture Maps Foundation is a downstream distribution of OpenStreetMap. Each month, a snapshot of the OpenStreetMap planet is taken and undergoes quality control checks, where issues are fixed upstream in the OpenStreetMap database. The resulting dataset, known as the daylight map distribution, is released as the current version of the Overture Maps Foundation. It ensures a quality guarantee for consumers and provides an easy-to-use, open map data source for developers building map services. The foundation also plans to implement the Global Entity Reference System (GERS) to provide stable IDs for buildings, roads, places, and administrative features across datasets. Future developments include expanding the schema to create a complete base map and adding more data layers from various sources.
