The Non-Relativistic Theory of Physics
In quantum mechanics, someone's going to have to give up on something that they really want to be true. For the non-relativistic theory, this thought occurred immediately in 1926 already by Louis DeBroyd. The idea of point particles is more minimalistic than democracy in particles. It couldn't possibly be the case that you just add some particles and write down a pretty simple looking equation for how they move, but amazingly, it does.
