Getting everything set up is a great time to pair You're not going to want to because you won't even be able to compile a project or have the right version of something installed. The environment for play is very important in the early stages of programming cognitive load is very high. Pedagogical path relates to the task at hand so they don't run off in a million directions Trying to learn a million things or get lost in some corridor of knowledge Building a project is fun and motivation is important to keep them going.
