Devil Land, a Phrase Used by Dutch Observers

Clare Jackson's new book is about the English and their relationship with Europe. The title Devil land was a term used by dutch observers to describe the british in 16 52. By publicly putting on trial and executing their king, charles the first, the republican leaders of the new regime seemed utterly unrepentant. And even more, they were just about to declare war on the dutch for trade and commercial reasons.
