Introduction

Dr. Kim Sterole is Professor of Philosophy in the Research School of Social Sciences at Australian National University and Victoria University of Wellington. In his new book, The Pleistocene Social Contract Culture: Cooperation in Human Evolution he talks about how dominance hierarchies were suppressed by our ancestors. He says it's very difficult to establish many forms of cooperation in a dominant structured society because that removes incentive for other animals to cooperate. We'll see whether it's a pleasure to everyone at the end of the interview, aren't we?
