Chocolate chip cookies actually had an earlier ancestor, the chocolate jumble. Chocolate was expensive at the time, so grating just a little chocolate and to flavor the cooki it made sense. But by the 19 thirties, the price of chocolate had come down quite a bit. And i think someone in the kitchen, who's being very pragmatic, was like, you know, this is going to take forever. I'm going to chop it 'm i think.
