The Imminent Populism of Britain
In this country, I'm not worried about as de-democratizing in any way. Populism emerged successfully in the UK because the previous axis on which our politics pivoted between sort of Thatcher through Blair stopped representing a bunch of people. It is not beyond the wit of man to reframe the axis of debate in the United Kingdom and elsewhere away from that kind of populist cosmopolitan dimension. If they're still there in a year or two's time, we may be having different debates than we were over the last few years.
