What Is a Good Way to Think About Excess Mortality?
The incentives on all sides are quite weak and not good enough to check a system which may have been dialed to too stringent to begin with. And there's also unintended suppression by individuals, not institutions, right? Like people who don't want a covid, thead certificate. So that they can actually cremate their family members without additional covert restrictions. Yet, the government's argument is that, since compensation was announced, it sort of increases incentives for reporting. As a result, would really would result in over reporting. But i suppose thats something that can be argued from all sides. Without excess mortality estimates, it's hard to know how much each explanation accounts for.
