I suspect, and this is speculation, that like a lot of other areas of American political economy, as you say, there is a kind of vast private welfare state made up of armies of white collar consultants. This gets into some of the questions you're asking about the boundaries between public and private. I don't know if that is a unique deformation in American capitalism as you understand it or if, yeah, how do you think about that?
