Most people in the United States consumed recommended amounts of omega-3s as ALA. The consumption of DHA and EPA from foods contributes a very small amount to total daily omega-3 intakes, about 90 milligrams per day in adults. For reference, this is about the same content of EPA and DHA in about four to five ounces of cooked salmon.
