Is the Monarchy the Last Constitutional Redoubt of the Hereditary Principle?
The monarchy rests on a principle of inherited position, but our current monarch plays no role in scrutinising and making legislation. At Elizabeth's coronation all the hereditary peers turned out in crimson and ermine,. Each order of nobility, dukes, marcuses, earls, vicants and barons pledged fealty or loyalty. The former banjat Adrian Woodridge says the monarchy with King Charles on the throne will, in this regard, be different from the monarchy and a Queen Elizabeth's reign.
