Bird flu (H5N1) outbreak in mink

Unexpected Elements

CHAPTER

Is There Enough Surveillance of H5N1 in Pigs?

The other animal species to really worry about in my view would be pigs because we know from history that pandemics of flu have originated by transmission of virus with mixing of genes. And what about the level of surveillance? The last time I was speaking to someone about this H5N1 it's spreading very easily amongst birds, domestic birds and wilds birds. Is there enough surveillance on for example thick mink farms? There isn't and I think that is a valid point and I do think that's really what needs to step up.
