Mongo is a synchronous version of the popular MongoDB database system. It's used to build client libraries that talk to some semi black box type of system. When working on PyMongo and Motor, you were trying to make them both usable by application developers. So I imagine those are two really different worlds building client libraries to talk to some Semi-Black Box System.
