The Metaphysics of Self

Being a self is more than just having experience being a self is something is having characteristics. It's having essential traits it's having defining features and you know so that the personal identity literature in analytic philosophy would say well but that's a different question because right if my children go on and have the same values and orientation to life as I had after I died that doesn't mean I lived. If I change my values I can still be alive I'm a person who's continuing to live and has changed my values.
