One thing that did surprise me as well was discovering that there was a lot more appetite for this sort of thing in enterprise-scale environments. In order to use something like this at scale and use it in a way that isn't more or less getting it into a point where the administration of it is more trouble than it's worth, you need to progress past a certain point of scale. An individual developer on their side project is likely just going to iterate against AWS itself; a team of thousands of developers might not want to be doing that because they almost certainly have their own workflows that make that process a high friction.
