The End of the CIA
Dick Nixon appointed James Schlesinger to replace Richard Helms as CIA director in 1973. The Senate Watergate committee had its sights set on the CIA at this time. E. Howard Hunt, a retired CIA officer, testified that the agency was involved with domestic intelligence operations for some time. Mark Hertling: This is an order that changed the course of U.S. history. He says it's "not a matter of his moronic mind," but what he should have done would have been much worse.
