Introduction

Last month, more than 30 states joined an antitrust suit demanding that Google be broken up. Following Facebook's censoring of its platform, there are now similar calls to break it up. Being a dominant company isn't necessarily a bad thing; what matters is why the company is dominant. If the dominance is due to the government preventing competition, the dominance is a sign of something bad happening. But if the dominance is based on customers freely choosing the company because the company does the best job, then the dominance is probably good.
