You Are the Salt of the Earth
The first two are found together in the early verses of the sermon in the mouth. The full statement is you are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. He says we are salt. When we put salt in food or in water we can't see it, but we can taste it. This made me think immediately of that passage in the Upanishads, which they use it the same metaphor.
