50% of us will have a heavy cycle during our reproductive years. You may be soaking through clothing or through bed sheets and if you look at the clots which is the endometrial tissue that's coming out of you, that's a sign that you're having a heavy cycle. When you are a heavy bleeder for a length of time you put yourself at risk of iron deficiency anemia.
