Retrieval Practice in Cognitive Psychology
Cognitive psychologists sometimes talk about the N-gram, which is the pattern of neurons that codes for a particular factor or nugget of information. From all the work done in cognitive psychology with students and watching how they learn more effectively, retrieval practice seems to form memory much, much more quickly. We may be slightly pushing our boundaries of understanding here, but there are some definite kind of neuroscience-based reasons why retrieval practice would be really useful.
