The basic principle underlying auto suggestion is closely related to self hypnosis. Both techniques played an important role in the development of modern psychology. It fell out of favor as a method when stage magicians began to use technique in their acts. Auto suggestion encountered a similar problem with French psychiatrist sigmund freud who treated patients diagnosed with psychosematic ailments but do not actually have a disease.
