Is There a Scoop on the Surface of Mars?

This is the kind of thing that always makes me wonder, where does this come from? Is this derived from a series of past observations or practices that have been estranged from their original context over time? Or at some point somebody just, like, get a vision and make this up? I don't know. But then who knows what other mystical attachments are involved there as well,. You know, concerning metal and, you know, just all these various magical ideas that might be imbued in just the idea of a spoon or an knife.
