By the 19 teens, lee had worked in so many fields and across so many genres. She did most of her writing during an after world war. One was about pacifism. Both she and her mother had also been ardent anti vivisectionists and campaigners for animal rights. But as world where one approached, lee increasingly focused on advocating pacifism - even though this was highly criticised. And she distanced herself from people whose pacifism was radical or religiously motivated. Her friend and mentor, walter pater, died in 18 95. Her mother died in 18 96.
