The History of Camphor in Taiwan

In 1919, tea growers in Taiwan began growing Taequan Yin Iron Buddha Tea from seeds transplanted from Anxi. Today, Ulong is harvested five times a year in Taiwan between April and December. Last year, in 2021, the island accounted for 1.5% of world tea exports. The other big export of Taiwan that played a big role in the economy was camphor. Since the 1860s, the British have been trying to muscle in on Taiwan's camphor trade.
