The alternative of not telling Cedric like barely occurs to him. Harry's moral intelligence means he knows how to do the right thing even if you don't know anything about philosophical ethics. He could tell Cedric, but tell him in a way that was like demonstrating like I'm trying to do you a solid buddy and have like that larger narrative in play. But that's not even in Harry's brain. The mad eye moody is very much that - it can be both beautiful and moody at the same time.
