Astrolopithesines adapted wood to create digging tools to access the tuber roots. Other species of hominine had to turn towards a more carnivorous diet to subsidize the lack of tree growing fruits and nuts. If we suggest that this would have happened either before or during the oldawan period, then we can revisit a suggestion made in episode five of this pog cast,. Oldawan tools would have been used to clean animal hides for warmth and shelter. Achulian hand axes would not have only been useful at carving meat from bones, but also cracking bones pen to get at the marrow. What better way to carry your foraged food back to camp than an animal hide sling
