Episode 536: Ryan Magee on Software Engineering in Physics Research
Software Engineering Radio - the podcast for professional software developers
Is There a Spectrum of Software Engineers?
There is a spectrum, but I would say there's a number of people that really focus entirely on maintaining the software stack. So while they have specialized in software engineering, they still very often have a science background,. But maybe their day to day operations are more related to the specialization of software engineering. Yeah. That's actually really cool to hear too, because it means you don't have to be a particle physicist. The top tier in order to still contribute to using software for exploring fundamental physics. Oh, definitely. A lot of people also just found some type of staff scientist role where here scientists doesn't necessarily mean they're getting their hands dirty with the actual physics of it and writing software
