When it comes to mental illnesses I kind of struggle to make that feel very meaningful. In some weird ways reminded me of silence not to go too deep into spoilers on that movie but that movie deals with the question of faith and being forced to apostatize. There's a little hint there that maybe Teddy is willingly giving himself up will he letting himself be lobotomized and be turned into a zombie because he knows that that way he will he won't do any further harm so that's basically him making a conscious choice as a sane person or like he's making a moral choice to take himself out of the equation that way.
