The Best Body of Music Ever Created
I've long been perplexed by John's odd taste in music, including his Frank Zapper obsession. I thoroughly admire old Zapper associate Captain Beefheart, but what little I'd heard of Zapper always sounded frustratingly tricksy and self-indulgent. Then I heard John on the BBC Radio 4 Great Live series trying to explain Zapper's greatness to a perplexed Matthew Parris. It was very funny, but Matthew wasn't convinced. However, John made the bold claim that the Zapper LP Hot Rats is the best body of music ever created. Fair enough, I thought, I'll whack it on and sneer at its awfulness. But Good grief!
