The Cost of a Nuclear Plant

The first nuclear reactor went from program start to commissioning and production of power in three years. During the 1970s, under the Carter administration, who imposed an entirely new regulatory regime on nuclear power, the time ballooned to 16 years. This was strictly due to the creation of an insane bureaucratic structure with numerous opportunities created for people who wanted to stop nuclear power.
