What Should the Government's Roll in Sport Be?

My sense is that a lot of sports don't have a market. They would not exist if the government wasn't supporting them. In some ways, they are artifacts. And i'm kind of torn between these two instincts. At a purely rational level, i don't see that wire sport, which is watched by no one, should be funded by the harder money of tax payers. But on the other hand, i do see a sort of point that, you know, there is much richness there and variety there, which we don't necessarily want to lose.
