Amari's Life as an Intellectual

As a teenager, Amari became that most annoying of caricatures: the atheist-teenager convinced of his own unique insight and daring. He baited Koran teachers at school, but not enough to get himself into real trouble. But what was to become of Amari was irrevocably altered when he and his mother left for America. They moved to Utah, helped by an uncle, and to poverty. After college he joined Teach for America,. where he met men and women wholly committed to improving education.
