The Differences Between the Dutch and the Americans in Space Programs

The major space programs are generally done collaboratively between nations. And there are national interests that sometimes conflict. The Dutch had the idea they would build some kind of wonderful, powerful computer that would gather the data from the sky and immediately send to the ground a catalog of the sources that they saw. The Americans thought that was entirely foolish; you had to bring down the actual data right down to the noise level and do the careful analysis of what sources might exist using ground-based analysis.
