The Rise and Fall of the Republican Government in September 1936

The Communist Party rapidly began to turn their paramilitary groups into units that looked much more like traditional military units. They did not always have a ton of military training, but with a firm emphasis on drilling and marching they certainly looked the part. There would be a similar situation for the international brigades in later months. Even without much military know-how, they were able to march correctly, even if it was much more challenging to teach them all the other things that soldiers needed to know.
