How Brewing Changed From Women's Work in 1300 to Men's in 1600
How does brewing go from being women's work in 1300 to being men's work in 1600? That's kind of the central question of that book. It begins mostly after the Black Death, so it's a slow process. But slowly hops begin to be used. And if you use hops and beer, it not only changes the taste, it also changes what the product is like. You can have a larger trade network with it. We have brew houses. Increasingly they have employees. All of those things work to women's disadvantage.
