Alex North was brought to Los Angeles by Yulia Kazan to score a street car named Desire. He then did the cinema version of Death of the Salesman and Viva Zapata, which was Kazan's picture as well. All three of those scores got Oscar nominations. And netting North yet another nomination for Spartacus. It might have been the beginning of a beautiful creative partnership. But after the film was cut, Kubrick was no longer to be found.
