Mendelssohn's Minuet and Trio
By the time mendelson was writing this symphony, a minuet and trio was almost an anachronism because beethoven had so thoroughly eclipsed it by inventing the scherzo. A minuet is more looking back at the time of mozart and hyden, composers much closer in character to mendelssohn than oven was. The music is more elegant and generally more gentle. It actually could have fit into a scarto as well, but it's almost too elegant for that.
