Introduction
In Ancient Greece, monstrous races were viewed as uncivilized by the Greeks. The word barbarian also came to acquire the pejorative meaning of ignorant, brutal, and savage. In Homer's Iliad there is no trace of racial prejudice against the Trojans in the Iliad. On the cultural front, an idea of Greekness was promoted by a common set of social institutions.
