Managed elections or this direct seizure of power was the means by which every succeeding president achieved office. 44 men occupied the presidency in the 85 years between the death of Solano Lopez and Alfredo Streisner's coup in 1954, one president ever every 23 months. 16 of the 24 presidents were overthrown who were overthrown served for less than a year and five of them were in office less than a month.
